Question two: how many doors?

This is the one people skip, and it matters more than the square footage.

Cold-air mist travels with moving air, but it does not pass through a closed door. So count spaces, not area.

2,500 sq ft as an open main floor plus a couple of bedrooms is effectively three or four spaces. A floor unit placed centrally handles the open part well.

2,500 sq ft split into eight or nine rooms off hallways is a different problem. No single standalone unit reaches all of it, at any price. That's the case where ductwork isn't a nice-to-have — it's the only thing that works.

Question three: how tall are the ceilings?
