PULSE vs AROMADD U5: 1,800 vs 3,500 Sq Ft at a Similar Price

If you're shopping HVAC-connected scent diffusers in the $140–$200 range, two units come up fast: our PULSE at $149, and the AROMADD U5, which AROMADD lists at $139.87 against a $199.99 regular price. They look like direct competitors. They aren't, quite — and the difference is worth ten minutes before you spend the money.

We checked AROMADD's own product page on the day of writing. Prices there move, so treat any figure below as a snapshot, not a quote.

How each one installs

Both units are cold-air diffusers: no water, no heat. Oil is atomized into a dry nano mist and pushed into moving air. Connected to a duct, that air is your furnace or air handler, so the scent travels wherever the HVAC travels — including rooms with the doors shut.

PULSE gives you two installs in one box. Mount it on the supply duct and it scents the whole system, rated up to a 2.5 ton AC. Or leave it on a shelf and run it standalone in one large room. That matters if you rent, or if you want to try the unit in a living room before committing to a duct tap.

The U5 is built around the ducted install and ships with a set of HVAC installation accessories. If a duct tap is definitely what you want, that's a clean match.

The coverage number, read honestly

3,500 sq ft against 1,800 sq ft looks like the whole argument. It isn't, because there is no shared industry test behind either figure. Every brand in this category, ours included, publishes a manufacturer-stated number measured its own way. Ceiling height, how open the floor plan is, how many doors stay closed, and how many hours a day the blower actually runs will move the real result more than the spec sheet gap does.

What the numbers are good for is relative sizing inside one brand's range. Ours works like this: PULSE is the 1,800 sq ft tier, and above it sits INFINITY at $399, recommended for homes from 1,500 to 6,000+ sq ft and rated to 16,000 sq ft, with three premium oils included and a published figure of under 35 dB.

So if your home is genuinely 3,000 sq ft or more, the fair comparison isn't PULSE at all — it's INFINITY. Buying the cheaper unit and hoping it stretches is the most common way people end up disappointed with a scent system.

Oil, tanks, and refills

The U5's 600ml tank is a real convenience advantage: fewer trips to the unit. PULSE takes 200ml bottles and runs up to 30 days on one, which means a monthly swap rather than a pour.

The tradeoff cuts both ways. A bottle swap makes changing scent trivial — pull one, drop in another, nothing to rinse. A big tank is better if you're happy with one scent for a season.

PULSE is sold without oil. Our oils come in 120ml, 200ml and 500ml, and the 500ml is the best value per millilitre. All of them are blended to IFRA standards.

App control: our honest tradeoff

This is the clearest place AROMADD is ahead. The U5's app works over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, so you can adjust it from outside the house.

Every Mila Marie Scents home diffuser — ECHO Mini, Elite Mini Pro, ECHO, PULSE, HALO Tower and INFINITY — uses Bluetooth only. You get full scheduling and intensity control from your phone while you're in the home, and that's the limit: no remote access, no Alexa, no Google Home, no cloud account. For most people who set a schedule once and leave it, that's a non-issue. If you want to turn the diffuser on from the airport before you land, we're not the right unit, and we'd rather say so now than in a return email.

Where AROMADD genuinely wins

  • Remote control. Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth beats Bluetooth-only, full stop, if remote access matters to you.
  • Tank size. 600ml versus 200ml bottles means far less hands-on maintenance.
  • A longer trial window. 45 days of money-back versus our 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
  • A published noise figure. They state ≤40 dBA for the U5. We publish decibel numbers for the Elite Mini Pro and INFINITY, but not for PULSE, and we won't invent one.
  • Marketplace review depth. They sell on Amazon alongside their own store, so there's a larger public review pool to read than ours.

Which one should you buy?

Buy the U5 if remote Wi-Fi control is a requirement, or if a 600ml tank you top up rarely is your idea of low maintenance.

Buy PULSE if you want the flexibility of ducted or standalone from one unit, prefer swapping a bottle to refilling a tank, and want a stated 1-Year Warranty on the hardware plus a 30-day satisfaction guarantee with no restocking fee. If your square footage is well past 1,800, skip straight to INFINITY rather than stretching PULSE.

And if you're not ready to commit to either, start with the scent. Our $15 Scent Card Sample Pack is 15 scent cards you smell by hand — the cheapest way to find out whether you actually like our fragrances before you buy hardware for them. (They're cards, not bottled oil; you can't run them in a diffuser.)

FAQ

Does PULSE have to be connected to my HVAC?
No. It connects to ductwork rated up to a 2.5 ton AC, or it runs standalone in a large room. The standalone mode is why it's a reasonable first HVAC-capable diffuser even if you're renting.

Will PULSE scent rooms with the doors closed?
Only in ducted mode. Cold-air mist doesn't pass a closed door, so a standalone unit scents the space it's in. PULSE and INFINITY are the two units in our range that reach closed rooms, and only because the HVAC carries the mist there.

Is $149 really cheaper than $139.87?
Not at that moment, no. The U5's regular listed price is $199.99 and AROMADD discounts it, so what you pay depends on the day. Check the current price before you decide on cost alone — and weigh the warranty and coverage tier alongside it.

Can I control PULSE from outside the house?
No. It's Bluetooth, so control works from inside the home only. There's no remote access, Alexa, Google Home or cloud account for any of our home diffusers.

How long does a bottle of oil last in PULSE?
Up to 30 days per 200ml bottle, depending on the intensity setting and how many hours a day your blower runs. Oils come in 120ml, 200ml and 500ml, and the 500ml is the best per-millilitre value.

What if I don't like it?
Diffusers come with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and no restocking fee, plus a 1-Year Warranty on PULSE. Opened oil can't be returned, which is exactly why the $15 sample pack exists. Shipping is free over $75.
