Scent reaches the emotional parts of your brain faster than it reaches the analytical ones. You feel something before you've decided what you're smelling.

That's why a fragrance can put you somewhere else without your permission — a particular coconut and sunscreen note and you're on a beach you haven't visited in fifteen years. You didn't choose that. It happened before you had a say.
